Privacy policy

This is how the Routes app handles your data. Last updated 7 June 2026.

The short version: Routes collects no personal data, needs no account, and shows no ads. The only thing it gathers is anonymous usage statistics that cannot identify you, and you can switch those off. Nothing that identifies you is ever sent to me. Here's the detail.

Your roads stay yours

The roads you save and the drives you log (your Passport) are stored in your own private iCloud, synced across your devices by Apple's CloudKit. They live in your iCloud account, not on a server I control, and I have no access to them.

Location

Routes uses your location on your device to show where you are on the map, sort roads by distance, and power Drive Mode. To show live conditions and the best-days-to-drive forecast, a road's location is sent to Apple's WeatherKit to fetch the weather. I never store, log, or share your location, and the app only ever asks for location while you're using it.

Sign in with Apple

Signing in is optional. If you choose to, Apple shares your name and, if you allow it, an email address, purely to confirm it's you across your devices. It is never used for tracking, profiling, or marketing, and you can use the whole app without it.

Purchases

Routes Pro is sold through Apple's App Store. Apple handles the payment and your subscription status. I never see your card number or payment details.

Anonymous analytics

To understand which features people use and where the app can be better, Routes collects anonymous usage statistics, for example which screens are opened, through TelemetryDeck, a privacy-focused analytics service. It records no personal data, no advertising identifier, and nothing that can identify you or your device, and it is never used for advertising or to track you across other apps. You can turn it off completely in the app under Account.

What Routes never does

No advertising. No ad trackers. No selling or sharing your data with anyone. No collecting your name, contacts, photos, or anything that identifies you. The anonymous analytics above is the only data Routes gathers, and it is yours to switch off.

Children

Routes is suitable for all ages and collects no personal data, so it's safe for younger users. As always, drive responsibly and never use the app while driving.

Changes to this policy

If this policy ever changes, I'll update this page and the date at the top. Material changes will be reflected in a new app version where appropriate.
