Branching off the Predel pass road at Strmec na Predelu, the Mangart road climbs toward the saddle below Mangart, the highest road in Slovenia at about 2,055 metres. In under 12 kilometres it gains close to 1,000 metres through five tunnels cut into the rock and numerous tight serpentines. Mind the unlit tunnels, the seasonal closure and the narrow toll-controlled width.
