The D010 climbs from Şavşat to the Çam (Sahara) Pass at about 2,470 m, with ramps up to 14 percent, then drops across high pasture to the edge of Ardahan.
The D010 leaves the eastern edge of Şavşat and climbs through the Sahara area near the Karagöl Sahara National Park, gaining about 1,400 m in the 26 km to the summit. It passes the pasture hamlet of Kocabey Yaylası just below the top, and the Çam (Sahara) Pass sits at about 2,470 m, where dangerousroads notes a small cabin and views that justify a stop. On the east side the road runs down past Değirmenli to the edge of Ardahan, and the whole pass section from Yavuzköy to Sulakyurt is 31.4 km long. Heavy snow and blizzards close the road to traffic in winter, so the drive belongs to summer and early autumn.
