Smugglers' Notch (VT 108)
VT 108Stowe to Jeffersonville · Vermont
Narrow seasonal pass squeezing between cliffs and boulders below Mount Mansfield.
VT 108 threads Smugglers' Notch, a dramatic seasonal pass between Stowe and Jeffersonville that pinches to a single lane between giant fallen boulders beneath the cliffs of Mount Mansfield. The climb to the notch packs a couple of very tight hairpins and abrupt rock walls before easing down the Jeffersonville side. The road is closed to vehicles from roughly mid-October to mid-May and is always off limits to trucks and trailers. Mind the single-lane boulder squeeze at the height of land, the seasonal winter closure, and pedestrians crossing near the trailhead pull-offs.
