Achenpass (B307)
B 307Tegernsee to Achenpass (border) · Bavaria
Cross-border alpine drive from Tegernsee over the 941m Achenpass toward the Bavaria-Tirol frontier and the turquoise Sylvensteinsee.
The B307 runs south from Tegernsee through Kreuth and Glashütte, climbing in wide curves over the 941m Achenpass, whose summit sits in Bavaria a few metres above the Austrian border. Just below the top the road forks, with one arm staying on the German side and dropping toward the turquoise Sylvensteinsee reservoir while the other crosses into Tirol toward the Achensee. Gradients are mostly gentle with one steeper pitch near the top, so it rewards flow rather than hard cornering, and the views of the Karwendel and the reservoir are the draw. It is a well-known Bavaria-to-Achensee touring link. Mind heavy summer motorbike and caravan traffic, frequently enforced speed limits, and reduced grip in wet or shaded sections.
