Loser Panoramastraße
Altaussee to Loser Alm · Styria
A short, intense toll panorama road of tight hairpins above Altaussee in the Salzkammergut, with views over the Altausseer See to the Dachstein.
The Loser Panoramastraße climbs about 9km from Altaussee up the flank of the 1,838m Loser in the Totes Gebirge, gaining height fast through a dense stack of tight hairpins to the Loser Alm restaurant near 1,600m. It is steep and concentrated rather than long, rewarding the toll with a panorama over the Altausseer See, the Dachstein glacier and, on a clear day, Hallstatt in the distance. The tarmac is good and the road one-and-a-half lanes on the hairpins. Open roughly May to October. Mind the steep stacked hairpins with limited passing room, the toll barrier and seasonal hours, and cyclists and walkers near the top.
