SP345Breno to Bagolino
Narrow high pass linking three Brescian valleys in the Adamello foothills.
The SP345 climbs to Passo di Croce Domini at about 1,892 m in the southern Adamello group, on a route historically connecting Val Camonica, Val Trompia and Val Sabbia. From Breno it rises roughly 20 km to the pass with a maximum gradient near 12% before the SP669 drops to Bagolino. The road is narrow with patchy asphalt and unprotected edges, and is closed by snow from around November to May.
On the road
The road runs from Breno to Bagolino. It grew out of a First World War military road and climbs more than 1,500 metres from Breno. Campolaro is the main settlement on the way up, and hairpins lead on to the Bazena basin. A short avalanche gallery comes just before the pass, where a rifugio serves food and drink outside winter.
The true high point is the Goletto di Cadino at 1,943 metres, about 0.7 miles (1.1 km) beyond the pass towards Bagolino. From there the SP669 drops past the Gaver ski basin and down the Val di Caffaro. This side stays narrow, with a few steeper pitches, but it flows more quickly near the bottom. Fine gravel sometimes lies on the surface.
Snow shuts the Bagolino side from around November. From Breno the road is usually kept open only as far as Bazena, about 1.2 miles (2 km) short of the pass. Early in the season, snowmelt can leave debris on the road, and cattle graze the high pastures in summer. Fill up in Breno, as fuel gets scarce further on.
