Töö Ashuu Pass
M41Kara-Balta to Suusamyr Valley
Kyrgyzstan’s great mountain spine, a switchback climb to 3,586 m over the Kyrgyz Alatau via nine tight hairpins, petroglyphs and twin alpine lakes, finishing through a notorious Soviet-era tunnel at 3,120 m.
From the Chui Valley at Kara-Balta the road assaults the Kyrgyz Alatau through nine switchbacks past ibex petroglyphs and the twin Suluu Toer lakes; at 3,120 m it enters the 2.7 km Kölbaev tunnel, notorious for diesel fumes, before descending into the sweeping Suusamyr Valley of summer pastures and 360-degree panoramas.
